It began in 1968 with just one company - - Sharpsburg Community Center, which was to become the Northern Area
Multi-Service Center of Allegheny County (The Center). Today there are five companies that form a Human Service
Network providing a variety of needed programs and services to thousands of people each year. Collectively, the
Northern Area Companies.
The Center, the parent company that provides a wide range of community service programs, is headquartered in
Sharpsburg in what was the former Sharpsburg United Presbyterian Church. The Center operates a number of senior
citizen centers scattered throughout the northern sector of Allegheny County. It operates paratransit, care management
to the elderly, and to individuals and families under the age of 60. In addition, The Center operates a residential program
and senior center program for adults who have developmental disabilities. Allegheny Valley Employment (AVE) is the
newest offering sponsored by The Center, and provides job placement services to Welfare recipients.
Pennsylvania Residential Developers is the operating entity for our personal care assisted living facility for the elderly -
The Manor.
Landmark Home Health Care Services is our first home care agency, providing skilled nursing, home health aide
services, physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Northern Home Care is a second home care agency that was created to provide home health care services emphasizing
long term care, including nursing home diversion services. Currently it provides in-home service programs for the elderly
and individuals with disabilities under the age of 60, as well as to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
The Manor is a HUD created, non-profit entity that holds ownership to the Landmark Manor physical plant in Hampton
Township, but contracts with Pennsylvania Residential Developers for the actual operation of its assisted living personal
care home.
